Mazzie Smith recently spoke after the Michigan Pro Day and touched on a variety of topics as she prepares for the NFL Draft.

Smith was invited to the NFL Draft Combine in Indianapolis, but did not compete in any exercises except the bench press, where he happened to post the highest marks with 34 reps.

Smith explained why he was unable to participate in the practice.

“Small changes,” said Smith. “You start training like a track star, big dude. I’m good at soccer, I can’t sprint 100 meters.”

Smith got a chance to speak with the NFL teams at the combine and said he didn’t want to tell them anything about his game.

“I’m trying to listen to him,” Smith said. “What do they see, what do I need to work on. I’m really trying to learn.”

Smith’s most recent allegations and plea deal related to a gun-related incident last year came up during the process. Smith says he understands and has nothing to hide.

“I tell them the truth. They’re about to invest a lot of money, so they want to know what’s up with you, so I tell them.”

Mazie has been a force for the Michigan defense, especially over the past two seasons. With him in the NFL and other players trying to fill his shoes, he says he knows exactly what’s coming.

“None would surprise me. The defense will be just as good, if not better.”

Smith, a player who was hyped last offseason, is getting a lot of hype for Chris Jenkins again in 2023. When asked about Jenkins, Mazie clarified that he has been expecting big things from Jenkins for some time.

“I’m already right. He’s going to be NFL-ready by the end of the year. He has qualities that show all the time. He’s wired a certain way, strong-willed.”
